It has been shown that successful business managers all share some common traits. If you are a business manager or a business owner then it can really pay off to learn what these traits are and incorporate them into how you run your business. It is important to keep in mind that there is particular skill set that is needed in order to make your business a success. When you have these skills you can make sure that you are running your business in the most profitable way possible and hopefully keep it around for a long time to come. Here are some traits that will help you successfully manage your business-

- Realistic self confidence-Successful business managers believe in themselves. However, this self confidence is not a grandiose all knowing belief but rather a confidence in the skills that they have. You will want to feel good about how you are managing your business. The bottom line is that if you want your employees to follow you, a belief in yourself is crucial. Finally, you will need to be comfortable with accepting a level of risk in what you do and how you run your business.
- Business finance knowledge-Studies have shown that the number one reason that businesses fail is due to poor financial management. This is true even for businesses that had a healthy rate of sales. This makes it crucial that you have at least a working knowledge of business finances. While you don't need to know or even do everything when it comes to your business finances you will at the bare minimum need to know how the basics of business finance work. You can then hire a bookkeeper or an outside accounting firm to take over the day to day tasks that are involved with business finances while you simply oversee the process.
- Experienced work ethic-Successful business owners are the people that work harder then everyone else. They come in earlier, stay later, and are willing to take on any task within the business. When your employees see that you are willing to work harder then anyone else in the business then they will be willing to follow in your example. You will need to show the people that work for you that you don't consider yourself above them. When you can be this type of example you are increasing the chances of long term success for your business.
- Knowledge of sales and marketing-It won't be enough to have a great product or service in your business if you don't know how to market and sell it. Successful business managers make sure that they have a working knowledge of both of these business functions so that they can manage their business to success. Just like business finance you don't need to know everything but having a working knowledge of marketing and sales is crucial for the long term success of your business. If you need further help there are business consultants that can be hired to help you set up effective marketing and sales.
- Balance in everyday life-The bottom line is that being a business manager can be a very demanding job. Savvy business managers know that they need to make sure that they don't get burned out. You will need to be able to balance your work and your personal life. If you can successfully do this both your business and your personal life will flourish and grow. Finally, don't be afraid to take time off so that you can return back to your business refreshed and ready to take on the demands of business management.
