Stress and high blood pressure

One of the largest concerns for employers is dealing with their employees that suffer from high blood pressure due to stress. Stress causes high blood pressure and other health problems. Employers actually lose a lot of money on their staff members that need to take time off work to deal with stress and other health issues that come with it. If you are like many people, you may take on more work than you can feasibly handle. When this happens, you will start living at your desk and you will put immense pressure on yourself.

A lot of employees do not get the proper amount of exercise their bodies need each day. This can lead to an increase of stress and high blood pressure. High blood pressure can be prevented, and it can be controlled through proper diet and exercise. Employers need to watch their employees that participate in unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking or obesity. If people lose even 10 pounds, they will reduce the pressure on their heart and their blood pressure will begin to drop.

Why is high blood pressure so dangerous? High blood pressure causes the heart to work harder; it is often called the "silent killer" by many medical professionals because it strikes without warning. Most people don't realize they have high blood pressure until it is too late and they actually pass away from it.

What causes high blood pressure? Your diet controls high blood pressure, so does your lifestyle. If you are always under stress, you will have high blood pressure. If you consume a lot of salty snacks, you probably have high blood pressure. Do you smoke or are you exposed to a lot of second-hand smoke? Smoking and second-hand smoke both increase your blood pressure and cause several other health complications. Consuming too much alcohol will also increase your blood pressure and may increase your risk of cancer.

Employers need to take a step towards controlling high blood pressure and stress in the office. How can they do this? First, you need to take a look at your office and ask yourself if it is healthy. Do your employees enjoy their job or do they appear to be burned out? What type of foods are your employees eating? Although you may not be able to control all the foods they consume, you can at least get rid of the snacks that may be causing problems.

Clean out the vending machines from the salty snacks and provide fruits and vegetable snacks for your employees. Fruits and vegetables not only help employees reduce their risk of high blood pressure but it also helps to reduce the risk of cancer.

How can you control the stress levels in the office? One way is to start offering access to a gym or to provide an on-site gym for your employees. Exercise is one of the best ways to improve your health and control your blood pressure. Teach your employees some deep breathing exercise to perform at their desks. How about offering yoga classes during work hours? This is a great way to give your employees a break from the hectic workday and focus on de-stressing their lives.

Meet with all of your employees to talk about their workload. If you have some employees that appear to be overwhelmed, ask them what you can do to reduce their workload. Some employees may need help from their co-workers or they may need to hire an assistant to help them get organized. A good employer will be there to listen to their employees and find ways to reduce the stress in their life.
