What Is The DMAIC Process

What methods are you using to provide your manufacturing plant with the right type of efficiency and productivity? You need to seek out programs that can aid in helping you to reduce wastes and to keep your costs down. The DMAIC process is used by many organizations as a way to help in improving your existing processes but to help you create better products and offer quality customer service. When you implement DMAIC you may find that your entire company becomes easier for you to manage and that it is much easier for you to be able to provide your customers with the products that they have always been seeking.

When Six Sigma created the DMAIC process, it spread quickly. For the program to be able to work effectively everyone within the company needs to be able to believe in the program butyou also need to have people that are committed to it. This is the only way in which you will be able to acquire high quality results from the program and to ensure that you are giving customers products that do not have defects. With Six Sigma programs, the goal is to reduce your defect ratio as much as possible. When Six Sigma came out the defect ratio number that was used was 3.4 per every million products produced. This still remains true but it can differ with each company that chooses to use Six Sigma as you will all have very different results from it. The Six Sigma program does require you to use some management things that can give you stronger results. You will need to have a series of process control methods and managers. The "belt system" is common with the correct implementation of Six Sigma. Let's look at the different steps that are involved with DMAIC so you can get an idea of how it works.

D - DEFINE
This is the initial phase where you will end up declaring which individuals need to take responsibility for various projects. You will need to divide up one or several projects that need to be handled in order to get the right type of results. During the define phase your leaders need to create a clear roadmap for the rest of the team to follow so they know what their roles are and to make sure that you are going to stay on budget needs and other things.

M - MEASURE
The next phase is where you will acquire as much information as you can to create a system in how you will end up measuring the results. The measure phase will have another team assigned to it and they will be in charge of determining what the responsibilities are for your employees as well as creating process maps and making adjustments along the way to increase cycle times.

A - ANALYZE
Your next phase is going to involve the analyze team. These individuals will end up finding out what the big problem is that your company has to face and they will look for ways in which they can fix the problems at hand and prevent them from happening again. Finding out the root causes of problems that you are dealing with is not an easy job and it requires individuals that really can "dig" toget the right results.

I - IMPROVE
This team will deal with all the ideas from the other 3 teams and will determine which improvement strategies to implement. The improvement team is one that needs to be able to focus on ways in which you can improve the business process workflow and to be able to create quality needs and identify elements that are deemed critical to the company's success.

C - CONTROL
Your control team is the one that will end up monitoring the DMAIC program. They will look for ways in which the program has improved the company and to find out what other elements can be changed to make adjustments that can continue to strengthen the company.
