Getting your team motivated by using the right techniques. This is what ends up getting missed between all the hiring, training, working, attendance, paperwork and terminations. The big part of managing a group of people that does not get as much attention as is should is the motivation to do a great job, come to work, and enjoy it.

As a manager it is easy to get wrapped up in all the hustle and bustle of work and responsibilities. However in order to be fully affective as a leader it is important to get your team motivated. Knowing the right techniques in order to motivate your team does this.

Here are seven techniques you can use to motivate your team in a positive way.

Technique #1 - Be sure to notice the effort made by the people you are trying to motivate. Doing the little things that help your team will help to show that you are paying attention to what they need, and what they are doing.

Technique #2 - Practice what you preach. This is an old saying that carries a great deal of weight in motivating the people you lead. This is because if a person feels they are being treated fairly, they tend to trust the people they are working for. In turn they will want to do a better job. When you don't think your employees are watching you, remember they are. So keep in mind at all times the behaviors you want to see repeated.

Technique #3 - Listen with real ears. This seams silly, but how often is it that when you are busy, an employee comes up to talk to you, and you say uh-hu and do not even look at them. This makes people feel belittled and unimportant. It is fair that you are busy, and really do not have the time to talk. However, what time will it take to re-motivate a person or even rehire and train another person because you lose an employee due to lack of motivation. When an employee comes to talk to you, turn away from what you are doing and pay attention. Even if it is only for a moment, to explain that you will be with them in a few minutes.

Technique #4 - Communicate and set proper expectations. This is probably one of the most important ways to motivate a team. When you communicate expectations and goals clearly, it help the people you are leading be able to reach for expectations that they understand.

Technique #5 - Set goals that are attainable. This is important because reaching a goal and being recognized for reaching it boosts moral more than any external motivator. If there is a large goal that will take a great deal of time and work to meet, break this goal into little goals. Then celebrate the journey to the big goal when the little goals are reached.

Technique #6 - Help the people you are leading to succeed. Keep them up to date with performance, statistics, and goals that are met. If there is a slip in the progress, take the time to also talk about this. Coaching will help keep the team on the right path. If you need to discipline, make it private. If you are praising, MAKE IT LOUD!

Technique #7- Reward outstanding work and achievements. If you take notice to positive progression, then make sure this progress is rewarded verbally, monetarily, externally etc you will see an increase in overall improvement.

These techniques will help you to be able to motivate your team. Getting your team motivated is easier than ever. It just takes a few minutes of your time, and paying attention to what is happening around you, even if you are busy.
