Things you must have for Six Sigma implementation

broker19160449.jpgThere are many factors that come into play, when a business is trying to implement Six Sigma. This process of implementing a process improvement strategy takes: time, manpower, and money and Six Sigma is no different. It is important to realize that Six Sigma is not something you can implement, and then expect it to succeed without involvement, from your employees. Successful implementation of this process is done on a project-by-project basis, and will result in continuous improvement of processes. Successful implementation also depends on factors like:the company's culture and the commitment and conviction, of its leadership. Without these factors, the Six Sigma process most likely will fail. Here are things that you must have for Six Sigma implementation-

  • The right company culture-Keep in mind that if this is the first process improvement program, you have implemented to your company; it may be a little challenging. This is because organizing the process, and having commitment from everyone, involved is not always simple. Employees can be resistant to change, especially if the business has tried to implement, several different types of improvement programs. This is why the leaders of the process will have to highly influence the company culture. Leaders will need to buy in and commit themselves, to Six Sigma and then their examples; will trickle down to everyone in the organization.
  • Dedicated staff-The management of the business must be able to delegate lead projects to managers, and help others who are working to make the process improvements. It is important to realize that the Six Sigma approach focuses on complete dedication to the process improvement. Employees can be overwhelmed with day to day responsibilities and put Six Sigma tasks last. Leaders will need to help with the assignment, and possible delegation of tasks, in order, for Six Sigma to be implemented. Leaders are also responsible to motivate the company's employees to accept this new initiative.Keep in mind that if management doesn't employ these tactics, it will not be embraced by the employee's. You may want to offer incentives, as they are a great motivator and they can help your employees support Six Sigma.
  • Understanding the speed of the process-It is crucial to understand that this is a process that will take time. By taking your time to plan out the process, it will result in immediate and long-term benefits for the company.
  • The ability to manage the training-Training is an essential process to Six Sigma. All of the training must be planned out, and a training session must be practiced on management, before it is sent down to the rest of the company. It can be helpful to take into account several types of questions. These will help to evaluate the training plan. Some of the questions are as follows:
1. What are the training objectives? 2. Who will receive Six Sigma training? 3. How long will the training take? 4. What training methods will be used? 5. Who is qualified to conduct the training? 6. What criteria is there for instructors?
  • The Projects-A number of projects will need to be created for each level in the process. It is important to decide which projects should be selected first, and which ones be directly tied to immediate results. It has been shown that once employees see results, the impact of projects will be engaged by everyone, and they will work harder to create a lasting program.
  • Clear and consistent communication-Clear communication will in very large way determine if Six Sigma will be a success in your company. Keep in mind that if leaders are not reporting to managers, there is no way to track what is really happening.
