Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer?

laptop30347484.jpgFaster internet service and secured internet connections are usually the main factors that determine if you should use Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. Several experts have explorer the question as to which service provider is better and safer, here are a few of the things they concluded:

Safety
As far as the safety of your computer and your personal information goes, experts all agree that Mozilla Firefox does a better job. According to Firefox, a study done in 2006 reported that Internet Explorer users will vulnerable to online threats 78% of the time compared to 2% with Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla Firefox operates in an open source world so ordinary internet users can detect problems and report them to Firefox to have them fixed. They also spend more time on protecting the internet browsing of their users.

Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) has been a problem for several web sites. These attacks will steal your identity by tracking your web site use and other things. Mozilla has developed a tough Content Security Policy that helps to stop these attacks from happening. It works by forcing JavaScript to be loaded from an external file and by allowing only sites that are from approved hosts. The other script on the site will be ignored, thereby protecting the internet user from attacks.

Firefox has a built-in resistance to malware, which saves the user from annoying pop-ups. It also integrates with anti-virus software and will notify you of .exe file downloads.

Performance

  • As far as performance goals, Firefox beats Internet Explorer in almost every aspect. The original version of Firefox was not as good as IE, but their latest version 3.0 beats out IE. Some of the reasons why the performance of Firefox is better include the following:

  • The URL bar icon in Firefox will tell you about the security of the website, a feature not yet offered by IE. This icon tells you if the web site is installing cookies on your web site, if your passwords are being compromised, and if your connection is encrypted or not.

  • Firefox offers users the ability to categorize their bookmarks with keywords. This provides faster access to the sites from the folder method of IE.

  • You can download extensions to the program to add language translation service, an extremely useful feature if you are using a computer in a foreign country.

Speed
Users of Mozilla Firefox report that it is faster from IE, however individual tests have shown that they are virtually the same. If you are downloading graphic programs, Mozilla Firefox is actually slower. One test showed that it took 10 seconds in IE to load the Disney web site, while it took Firefox 20 seconds. However, the test results will vary with the type of internet service you use (DSL or cable) and the number of users on the web site.

Firefox also has problems with Adobe Flashplayer, with several test results showing that is will freeze and crash. The new version of Firefox is much better than the older version as far as running Flashplayer goes, but it still takes a minute or longer to load. IE has mastered Flashplayer and typically doesn't have any problems when loading it.

In the end, both internet services offer great customizable features for the users. If you are a Mac user, you will probably prefer Mozilla over IE because it was designed for Mac's and it runs great on them. IE on the other hand is useful because most programs are designed in Window's, the owner of IE. Both programs continue to get better with each development; it's up to your personal preferences as to which one you should use.
