Many business owners are facing the decision of whether or not to buy business laptops, for their staff. One of the challenges of this type of decision is that there are a wide variety of choices. You must not only determine what kind of computer you are going to buy, but also the software and other options you will need. All of these decisions are in addition, to deciding whether or not you will buy laptops or desktops, for your employees. This choice has become harder to make since many laptop computers, not come fully loaded with features that were once reserved, for only desktop computers. However, if you are trying to decide between buying business laptops or desktops, there are a number of things to keep in mind. Here is what to consider if you thinking of buying business laptops-

  • Determine a budget-You should have a clear idea of how much you want to spend, before you do any shopping. This is especially important if you will be purchasing computers, for your start-up business, when funds are often the most limited. You should keep in mind that buying a laptop is usually about twice as much, as a desktop computer. However, you should not rule out laptops based on price alone, since they can be a good investment that leads to higher productivity.
  • Determine where you are going to be working from-If the majority of work you and your employees will be doing, is from one location, then you are probably better off, buying desktop computers. However, if your business necessitates traveling, working from multiple sources or anything else that takes you out of the office, then you may want to consider purchasing laptops because of their portability.
  • Determine the functions you need from your computer-Today, there is little difference in how laptops and desktops handle basic business functions such as: word processing, spreadsheets and email. However, laptop computers can be loaded with presentations that can then be given in multiple sites. You can also use them to play CD's or DVD's (including games). If these are functions that you would want to have them buying a laptop, might just be the right choice, for your business. On the other hand, if you are looking to do extensive graphic work, you may want to consider a desktop that has a bigger screen and is often able to hold additional graphics software. The bottom line is to not be swayed by a slick sales presentation, or by what anyone else is doing. You should make sure that you choose the right type of computer, to fit the needs of your business.
  • Determine how much you want to spend on repairs-The major benefit of laptops (their portability) also can be a downfall when it comes to repairs. Because you can take your laptop everywhere, you are also risking it getting damaged. I addition, laptops tend to have more wear and tear, since you are repeatedly opening and closing the screen. In addition, many laptop users report problems with cracked screens and broken keyboards. You should be aware that generally laptop computers are both more expensive to fix and to upgrade, then their desktop counterparts.
  • Determine the best setup for your business-There are certain physical dimensions that you need to take into account, when planning what computers to buy. If you are need desktops, they take up a lot of room, along with the necessary networking and printing options. You want to make sure that you have the correct logistics in mind, before purchasing computers that are not effective, for your business needs. In addition, if you are going to have employees with laptops you will need to determine what will be the appropriate business uses of each of the computers.
