For small businesses one question they might ask themselves is whether or not it would be worth their while to get an 800 phone number. They are on a quest for success and they need to know if an 800 number would be beneficial to them. Because they are small, success is especially important for them in order to keep running, as without consistent profits, they will shut down. Big businesses can afford little losses here and there while small businesses cannot.

So if you are a small business and you need to know whether or not it would be beneficial for you to get an 800 number. So, let's take a look at that: 800 hundred numbers do have their good points. Those good points just might be exactly what your business needs for an extra boost in the right direction.


The average person sees an 800 number on an advertisement or something of the sort and they immediately, perhaps subconsciously, associate it with something professional. They see an 800 number and it seems official, reliable.etc. They associate it with a business that is doing well and is profitable. Thus, having an 800 number legitimizes your company.

That is a good benefit.
It starts you out with good standing with your customers before you even start doing business with them. Then what comes afterwards depends on you and how well you work with the customers etc. At least it gets you off on the right foot.

Another benefit of 800 numbers is that customers actually prefer calling 800 numbers. They would rather call an 800 than a local or home type number. An 800 number is more business like and professional. It is less personal and customers are more comfortable with the business like phone number than the personal phone number. Like was mentioned above, they tend to feel that your business is more reliable and serious if you have an 800 number. Not to mention, it opens up the door for those who woul not be able to call you because of long distance etc.

There have been studies done that have shown that those businesses that have an 800 number in their advertising actually get more business. They get more customers who actually call the number and purchase the goods or services.

One small business said that they included a Toll-free 800 hundred number on their website and took off the other number they had there. They said the amount of calls coming in decreased but everything else increased. Everything else as in customers, sales etc. They said they actually profited by putting that toll-free 800 number on their website.

By putting the toll-free number on their site they said it helped filter out those people who call just for kicks, or call to see if there is really a business on the other end of the ad. It filtered out those people who called and were not actually very serious about purchasing the product.

This story goes right along with what other studies have shown. They have shown that by using the 800 numbers you will get more business. That is just what these people did. If you were to use an 800 number it may have a small cost attached to it, that's true, but it would probably be very small compared to the revenue it would bring in.

The truth is that 800 numbers are more valuable than they look.
Some people do not use them because they do not see a big difference between using an 800 number and using any other phone number that they have. They do not see the benefits of getting an 800 number. But the truth is that there are benefits and it would be a great thing for your small business if you got an 800 phone number.
