How to dress while running a small business
Appearance is an important part of life. Obviously we can make too big of a deal out of it sometimes, but when it comes to your profession, you need to know how to appear respectable. How will you dress at your small business? Obviously the nature of your job might dictate this. If you are making pizzas you might not want to wear a three piece suit. However, how will you dress when you are in a meeting with a possible investor? Will you come out in your pizza apron covered with stains and pizza sauce? Whenever you can represent your business well by dressing up, do so. This means that men should wear concervative and clean business suits. Make sure that they are well ironed and pressed. You want to give the impression of efficiency. For women this could mean a formal skirt or a nice business suit. In either case, male or female, make sure that the clothing is in good shape. You probably don't want to stand out so much that people think you are weird or that you need attention. Although it might seem strange, it could also be a good idea to dress formally at your small business. Sometimes a small company becomes fairly informal and personal. You know everyone who works at the business. This does not mean that you should not dress formally at work. If you give the appearance of respectability at your small business you will help to raise the general level of professionalism. Act as though you worked at a big firm and you might just help your firm become big. Take some pride in your work by dressing the part. If nothing else, people will know that you are serious and invested in helping your business grow.
