Is your content any good?

womanonphoneandcomputer7629056.jpgHave you looked over your website lately? Have you been impressed by what is on there or are you shocked by how poor the content is and the overall design? Content is everything when it comes to your website and your online marketing promotions. If you wonder about your content and you are worried about the quality, it may be time for an overhaul of your website and the content on your site.

The first thing you have to recognize is that you are not a professional writer. As a small business owner, you may have expertise dealing with financial reports and other data but if writing is not your thing, this is a big indication why you are failing to get the results you need. You need to go out and hire a skilled marketer with excellent writing skills. If you cannot afford to hire one, why not look into a freelancer? Freelance writers can often provide you with excellent results and you won't need to pay nearly as much to have the content written for your site.

After you have a writer, you want to sit down with them and go over your goals for the website or for the marketing promotions. Create some goals that you would like to accomplish together and you will be able to meet those goals together. The goals you create could be things like building brand loyalty or attracting new customers through engaging content. No matter what your goals are, you need to identify them before you start writing. By doing this, you will be able to set the tone for your entire site along with your online marketing promotions.

One other step to take with the writing process is the identification of the hook line and sinker. What information are you going to put out there that will draw in the readers? Once you have the hook line that sparks their initial attention in your company and products, you want to head to your line and sinker line. This is where you are offering value to the customer in exchange for the time they spend reading the information you have posted. Some companies like to focus specifically on marketing promotions like a coupon or discount offers while others will offer educational information or updates on upcoming products and services.

Never get technical when it comes to online marketing and the content you post. One rule of thumb is to write at an 8th grade level so it's easy enough for people understand but it can also provide valuable information to the customer. If they want in-depth information, you can write articles and other things that they can reference. You need to put yourself in the shoes of your readers and think like them when you are writing. What type of information do you think they will be interested in and how can you provide them with this information? As you are putting together the content, watch yourself and make sure you don't get off track. Be careful about offering brief information and not following it up or tying it into another place. All you will end up doing is confusing your readers and you can also frustrate them.

One rule of thing to always remember when it comes to quality content you need to keep yourself away from distractions.Classical music is great but you don't want to keep flipping back and forth from Facebook and other sites while you are trying to create quality content for your customers. You also need to shut off your instant messenger program when you are writing content. This helps you to get into the right zone so you can offer better content to your customers.
