Latest technology in digital video

Digital video cameras are changing all the time.In the past decade, digital video cameras have gone from being a toy of the rich and the famous to being affordable to every vacationing family on a budget.Besides coming down in price, the features of the digital cameras are getting better and more complicated every year. Some of the improvements are simple, for example, LCD screens are getting bigger, making it easier to see what you are recording. Some of the improvements are complex, for example, HD technology allows you to record 1080 lines of interlaced resolution.

One of the hottest new developments in digital video technology are the new tape less camcorders. There are a handful of these devices out right now and they are getting more popular all of the time. The big difference between tape less camcorders and other kinds of camcorders are that the video information is stored right on the camera and then imported to a computer.Other cameras record onto tapes or DVDs or even memory cards but tape less recorders don't use any storage device at all.

Two of the tape less recorders are the Pure Digital Point and Shoot and the Samsung VM-X300.The benefits of using a tape less camera is that the files upload automatically to the web. They also offer web storage as a standard feature. This is the best possible option for storing videos, sharing videos, and for getting your videos into an editable format. One benefit of the Pure Digital model is the price; it has even been called a "disposable digital video camera".For about $150 you can be taking video and saving it to the web.True, the quality of the recording is nowhere near that of tape of DVD recordings but sometimes price and convenience are more important than image quality.

A technological step, similar and probably better than the new tape less devices are camcorders that record onto memory cards. If you are familiar with digital photography, digital videography using memory cards is the same concept. The technology is still developing and the memory card image quality isn't quite as good as with the MiniDV recorders or the DVD recorders but it is probably the wave of the future.

The new miCards are the face of the removable memory future. These cards have amazing storage capacity-the current capacity is 8GBs per card but it is expected that future cards will have a capacity for 2048GB of storage. That is more storage than almost any personal computer. What's more, the cards are compatible with USB ports, so they will be able to plug into any computer and the transfer rate of 480Mbit/sec is amazing.

The other big new thing in video technology is the new High Definition (HD) camcorders. These camcorders are able to record with a level of definition only perceivable on HD monitors. This technology is so new that it is not affordable to the average consumer. There are several recorders available but the cheapest of these models costs about $7000.As with all things technological, this price will eventually come down.

Of course, other technological developments keep making improvements on existing camcorder features.Cameras keep getting smaller, and storage capacity keeps getting bigger. With every new generation of camcorders, the number of mega pixels captured by the devices grows. It is now possible to capture 14 million pixels per square inch.Given that any more than 3 million pixels per square inch is more than the computer monitors and television screen can resolve, this seems like over kill.Still, the technology exists.
