Protecting your technology, what you can't live without

Technology can be a big investment. It is a nice feeling to know it is protected. But how is the best way to protect it?And what exactly are you protecting it from? With each piece of technology you invest in there will be a different way to protect it.

Here are a few simple ideas for protecting your different technological investments. There are more ways than this, but this will give you a good idea of how to watch your back.

All Technology

Be sure you have and understand the warranty that comes with the item.If there is no warranty, look into purchasing one from the store. Most stores offer warranty programs that will protect you if the purchase doesn't come with one, or to extend the one it comes with.It is a good idea on everything to have at least a two year warranty.

When you plug in your new item, use a surge protector. Many warranties don't cover power surges and the repairs can be costly. One power surge on my $150 TV cost me $75 in repairs.Be smart and prevent such costly problems. Some will come equipped with a surge protector on the plug, perfect! No need to double up that will do fine.

Computers

To protect your computer while on the internet there are a few things to have installed.First of all a firewall, put some room between you and the other crazies on the internet.

Next, install an anti-virus software. This will keep your computer safe from harmful viruses that can render it incapacitated.Viruses can be costly to fix, prevention is the best method.

Another consideration is to install spyware and adware protection programs. These will keep you safe from all of the junk you can pick up while on the internet.

All of these things are available when you purchase your computer, or are available free on the internet for downloading.Which ever way you get them, make sure you have them.

Telephones

If you have problems with telemarketers, it is a good idea to get on the Do Not Call List. This can save your phone from being slammed down hard all of the time. You will be a lot happier with your phone if you are only receiving calls you want.

Cell Phones

Be sure you have a warranty.Make sure you are covered if you drop it, on the ground or in the water, or if you lose it.Insurance is usually offered with new phones, it is definitely something to consider.

Consider buying a phone cover. For around $20 you can protect your phone and let the cover take the beating. It can really prolong the life of your new phone, and those can be a costly investment.

Television

Make sure the television you invest in has a screen saver option. This can protect your screen from having an image burned into it.It makes for a nicer picture and helps prolong the life of your TV.

Make sure your TV is compatible with all of the other components such as, DVD player, surround sound system, and cable or dish that you have.If one is too powerful for the other they can damage each other.

Technology is a huge part of our lives these days and it is important to invest wisely. But more important is to protect that investment to prevent any costly problems.

Since all of these things you can't live without in this day and age, all of these protections are something you shouldn't be able to live without either.Make protection of your technology important and your investments will go farther.
