Not too many people are actually following through with the goal of going green. Some people are taking the major steps by installing solar panels on their roof or even purchasing a natural gas vehicle. With so many options available it is important that you do start becoming more conscientious about your environment and to start going green as much as you can. While you might not be able to do everything, trying to aid in going green by changing to energy-efficient light bulbs and recycling will both go a long way in going green.

There have been so many advancements in technology that going green is easier than you might think. If you are still using old batteries, it is time to upgrade to rechargeable batteries and to focus on getting the right type of energy efficient ones so you don't need toss them when they get older. Look for rechargeable batteries that come from quality names like Energizer and Duracell.

Are you growing your own products? Create an organic garden outside if you have the room for it because you will appreciate the healthier food options that are available and how easy it is for you to be able to acquire the foods you need without going to the store to do so. Watch the pesticides you use because they can be dangerous to the environment. Target has a selection of pesticides you can use to keep your fruits and vegetables insect free and they don't contain all the harmful toxins that hurt the environment and can cause you serious illnesses as well. Start composting! This is another great way to go green and to have a series of rich soils in your backyard that can be used for your flowers or for your garden as well. Nutrient rich soil will provide you with healthier plants and it is a great way for you to be able to avoid throwing away as much waste as you do.

Consider installing solar panels on your roof. This is a serious investment but when you add up how much you will end up saving, you won't regret this decision. The solar panels are great because the store energy. This means when the power goes out and everyone else in the neighborhood is unable to have heat and lights your home will still be up and running just fine. Contact your energy department in order to find out what alternative energy sources are available and start focusing on making your home self-reliant.

The government is issuing huge tax credits to people that purchase natural gas vehicles. It is a wise idea to purchase one as it will save you a ton of money on gas but it also comes with other great things as well like better gas mileage and also reduction in emissions as it is all natural. Just make sure you know where the refueling stations are before you drive it so you aren't stuck somewhere without gas. Natural gas is much better for the environment and with the tax credits and cost savings you will get, it makes sense to either convert your vehicle to a natural gas car or to purchase a new one.

Contact waste management to find out if they have a recycling program. Most companies do and they will gladly bring you the boxes and things you need to set up a recycling program at your home. All you will do is sort the items such as cardboard, glass, paper, etc. and then you will place them into bins and place them on the curb on the recycling days. This is a great way to really help the environment by reducing the amount of trees and other things that are used to make products that we use daily.
