What is required to get VoIP services?

organizedoffice16487189.jpg
VoIP basic requirements are a broadband Internet connection and some type of communication tool, a computer, a VoIP service package and a VoIP phone or a telephone.

VoIP is voice over Internet protocol. This process is the use of the Internet to make local, long distance, and international phone calls.

The way that VoIP works is that the adapter, phone, or VoIP phone takes the voice sound and transfers that sound into a digital packet of data. This data is then compressed to a smaller size, then this data is then sent over the Internet to a receiving computer. Then it is changed back into a voice sound and sent to the recipient of the conversation.

Depending on the type of VoIP you are going to be using, determines the basic requirements that it will take to get VoIP services.

The three different ways that you can communicate using the VoIP services are:

  • Computer to computer; this is where the computer is used to make the connection using software, a computer, a broadband internet connection and head set and microphone to another person on another computer with the same requirements.
  • Computer to phone; this is where a person who is on a computer calls a person who is on a phone. This is usually with some form of software, broadband Internet connection a microphone and a headset. The other person uses a regular phone.
  • Phone to phone; this is the use of a phone that is connected by either a VoIP phone, or standard phone, a broadband Internet connection, and an ATA adapter.

The broadband Internet connection I am referring to is a connection that has a high data transmission rate. The most popular of broadband connections are DSL and cable. These both transmit at a faster rate than a regular dial up connection.

The best connection required for the broadband connection is 90 KBPS. However, this can be brought down to a much lower connection of 60 or even 30 Kbps. If your Internet connection does not have a high enough bandwidth, then you can ask your VoIP service provider to lower your connection by lowering the voice quality.

A VoIP service or VoIP phone can be hooked up to a wireless or dial up Internet connection, however the quality of calls can be less than favorable.

The VoIP phone is a phone that is specially designed to work in any WIFI hotspot or with your broadband connection. A typical VoIP phone costs between $50-$150.

An ATA adapter is the adapter that is plugged in between your standard telephone and your broadband Internet connection. The ATA or analog telephone adapter is the device that is used to take the analog signal and turns it into data.

The VoIP software that is used to talk through the computer is software like Ventrillo, Yahoo and Skype. The benefit to this software was that you could talk free to anyone who had the same software and a computer, microphone and headset.

For the hybrid VoIP communication service to work, you will want to contact a Service provider of the VoIP service in your area and request a VoIP service package. These packages usually include a standard phone plan, in addition to a long distance, and International calling plan. With these programs you will usually receive at no cost the added benefits of voice mail, call waiting, three way calling, caller ID and other great services.
